The service

Startup Chess is a free daily puzzle game about real business decisions, operated by How They Grow LLC, publisher of The Diff (www.the-diff.com). By playing, you agree to these terms. Case content is editorial commentary on publicly reported business history; company names and logos belong to their respective owners and imply no affiliation or endorsement.

Accounts and fair play

No signup is required to play. Email unlocks the archive and stats. Don't abuse the service — no scraping answers, automating plays, or interfering with other players. We may suspend access for abuse.

SMS program terms (Startup Chess puzzle alerts)

By opting in to texts on the stats page, you consent to receive recurring automated text messages from Startup Chess at the number you provided. Consent is not a condition of playing. Message frequency: up to 1 message per day. Message and data rates may apply.

Reply STOP to cancel at any time; reply HELP for help or contact puzzle@the-diff.com. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. See our Privacy Policy (startup-chess.com/privacy) for how your number is handled — it is never shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.

No warranties; limitation of liability

The game is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. Reveals summarize real events but are not investment, legal, or professional advice. To the fullest extent permitted by law, The Diff is not liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from use of the service.

Changes

We may update the game and these terms; the current version always lives at startup-chess.com/terms. Continued play after changes means acceptance.
